«User Mentions» — plugin for Redmine

Plugin allows to mention user in any rich-text field of Redmine

You will be able to mention user by typing part of his name, surname or user login and selecting the desired user from the drop down list.
When used together with the plugin «Hierarchy», link to user will open a modal window with useful contact information about the user. This will simplify the use of Redmine in a corporate environment.

 
 
 
 

How plugin «User Mentions» allows to mention users.

In any text field you can mention user. To do this, type «@» symbol and start typing the name. You will see list with available variants. Search is performed by surname, first name and user login. The desired user can be quickly selected by arrows on the keyboard and pressing «Enter». Mentioned user will be displayed as link to profile or contact information.
After saving object users will see the link to information about the user.
When used together with the plugin «Hierarchy», a new window with detailed contact information about the user will be displayed.

How to install the plugin «User Mentions» in Redmine

  1. Make sure that your server meets the following requirements:

Guaranteed 3.0 - 3.4 1.9.3, 2.0 - 2.4 3.2, 4.2 PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL Chrome, Firefox, Internet explorer 9, 10
Should work > 3.4 > 2.4 x ActiveRecord compatible DB Any modern browser
  1. Open the archive with the plugin and select the folder that match to your Redmine version.
  2. Copy contents of the selected folder to the folder «Redmine» — «plugins».
  3. Ensure that the user, under which you run the web-server, has access to the root installation folder of «Redmine». As possible solution for UNIX operating systems, run the following commands:
      sudo chmod 775 -R your_redmine_root_folder
      sudo chown -R your_web_server_group:your_web_server_user your_redmine_folder
  1. Run `bundle install` to install missing gems (make sure performing command in the root installation folder of «Redmine»)
      bundle install
  1. Perform plugin migrations (make sure performing command in the root installation folder of «Redmine»):
        rake redmine:plugins:migrate RAILS_ENV=production
      
  1. Restart your web-server.
      sudo service apache2 restart

Redmine settings

  • Go to the «A common libs» plugin settings and make sure that library «Tiny modals» is enabled.

  • When used together with the plugin «Hierarchy», allow the use of «Twitter Bootstrap» and enable «Javascript patches».

  • When used together with the plugin «Hierarchy», go to the «Hierarchy» plugin settings and enable option «Use ldap user details information».

  • Go to «User Mentions» plugin settings and set fields that will include the possibility of mention.

  • Also here you can set additional parameters of user mentions.
